Kaweah River season 2023

The 2023 season is looking to be good to excellent. We have a very large snowpack in the Sierra mountains and will be able to raft well into July, maybe even August. We will be open for rafting starting April 1st. First trip on the books is April 4th at the moment. The Kaweah River flows may become fairly high for a brief time period when snow melt is at its peak. keep in mind that we will always keep your safety and well being in mind when deciding what trips to run. Hope to see you out there this summer as we take advantage of an amazing Sierra snowpack.

Hope to see you soon,

Rafting season 2023

I am at China Peak Ski Resort as I write this and I am snowed in. The roads are R3 chain control meaning that only 4 wheel drive vehicles with chains on may travel at this time. An additional 3 to 5 feet of snow is expected overnight and 3+ feet have already fallen thus far. This is one of the biggest storms that any of the old timers can recall. What does this have to do with rafting you ask? Well, the more snow that accumulates in the Sierra, the longer our season lasts. 2023 is shaping up to be an epic season with raftable flows well into July if not early August. That is a banner year for the Kaweah River. Mountain Descents will be running trips this year for as long as we have water in the river. Join us this spring and summer for epic fun on the Kaweah. Meanwhile I am going to have some epic fun of my own riding some of the lightest, fluffiest, deepest pow that I have ever snowboarded in my life!!!

A promising 2019 Kaweah River season.

As 2019 rolls in the rafting season is looking better and better. We started with a banner snow pack for April 1st average. Then we have had cool weather on and off followed by late May snow storms. The 2019 season will be one for the record books. We will be running trips into the month of August with clear, cool river flows late into the season. Meanwhile, the whitewater right now is outstanding! The Kaweah River flowing out of Sequoia National Park has been a medium high flow of 2500 to 3500 cubic feet per sec for the last month and a half! These measurements are from the gauge in the town of Three Rivers and give us the most accurate flow measurement for our rafting run that we can get. More info can be found at The Kaweah River Page.
